why change is so hardJan 17, 2023
You are hardwired to resist change.
A part of your brain interprets change as a threat which causes us to go into fight-flight or freeze.
That's why you face resistance when you are ready to make a change. It's because your brain is telling you it's scary.
Your brain is protecting you. Rather sweet, right?
This is what keeps you small, stagnant, and stuck. It's not for lack of desire. It's because you are wired to seek comfort and safety.
So when you start trying to make change and keep coming up against resistance, know that nothing has gone wrong. Your brain is doing its thing.
It's up to you to meet the resistance.
And not back down from it.
Resistance doesn't mean "do not make a change". On the contrary, resistance is a sign you are on the right path. You are evolving. You are making a meaningful change that will shift your life.
We know the only thing constant in life is change, so how can you be open to it?
❔ Understand WHY you want to make a change — if the reason is compelling enough, it will dissolve any wall that comes up.
❔Ask yourself empowering questions such as "what if the change wasn't scary" or "what if the change wasn't hard" — this will shift your focus on what is within your control
❔Create a vision for yourself as if you've already made the change — once you can see it in your mind, it will be easier to overcome any resistance that comes up along the way
To start making significant changes in your life, you'll have the courage to change.
